Supervision is a
professional, confidential partnership between the supervisor and supervisee.
It is designed to support and develop the skills, knowledge and experience of
the supervisee in order to maximise the efficacy of the therapeutic relationship
for the supervisee’s clients. A key function of the relationship is to ensure
ethical and safe practice, whilst promoting an environment supportive of growth
and development for the supervisee.
This is achieved by
regular discussion, which focuses on;
-
Providing an opportunity to discuss client cases and
other issues which may impact on the ability of the therapist to meet the
needs of their clients.
-
Sharing responsibility for ensuring safe and ethical
practice in relation to therapeutic practice.
-
Sharing responsibility for the ongoing development of
skills, knowledge and understanding in therapeutic practice.
